July 2010

Family Picnic

It was nice seeing everyone at the family picnic in June. We had a delicious Texas style barbeque from Eddie Deens Catering. The DJ was entertaining for everyone with his variety of music.  All of this was made possible by Sebron Hood. Sebron did a wonderful job this year of coordinating the family picnic. We all appreciated the hard work and time he put into making this a successful picnic. Thank you Sebron!

Yard of the Month

Marc and Christie Davidson at 2013 Belgium is the winner of our Calloways sponsored Yard of the Month for July. They have been working diligently the last few months updating old landscaping in their yard. Congratulations Marc and Christie!

Friday Night Fun Night

Chelle Barker is planning a Friday night fun night for families with young children. The first event will be a visit to The Village Fountain at the The Village at Fairview. http://www.thevillageshopping.com/attractions/The_Village_Fountain    For more information Chelle can be contacted at 214-850-2792 or chellebarker@hotmail.com.

Neighborhood Garage Sale

Its time to start cleaning that attic and those closets!  The annual garage sale is being planned for the end of August. If you would like to participate, please contact Gregg Stengel (greggstengel@hotmail.com) so he can get your home on the map. Watch the website for the exact date.

Pool

Summertime is here! The pool is in great shape this year and is ready for the 2010 swimming season. In addition to the normal pool rules, please abide by the following:

  1. Keep the pool gate closed and locked at all times.  Not only is this a safety issue for the Oakwood Glen facility, but it is a city code to have a self locking gate. If the city comes by for an inspection (always unannounced) and finds the gate open, we will be fined and the pool shut down.
  2. Keep the outdoor furniture out of the pool. Putting the chaise lounge chairs in the kiddie pool damages the pool surface. Also, we do not want any harm to the kids as they then have a tendency to stand on the slippery chairs in the pool.
  3. No water balloons. The balloons clog the filter.  Balloons not picked up melt on the pool deck, making it undesirable to walk barefoot. Stepping on the melted balloons is like stepping on gum.
  4. Keep the outdoor restroom doors locked.  We have vandalism issues at night when the restroom doors are left open at the end of the day.

Crime

Remember to keep your garage door closed when you are not in your garage. During the summer, it is easy to keep your garage door open to go in and out. Unfortunately, it is also easy for thieves to go in and out of an opened garage. If you are not in your garage doing something.shut the door. If it is late and you notice your neighbors garage door is open, call them to tell them, they may be unaware.

Do not keep anything in your car, especially your garage door opener. Smash and grab is very easy, and quite common. Keep the inside door going into your house locked at all times.

There recently has been this type of vandalism and theft in our neighborhood. Please be alert at all times.

Safety

We have had a request to warn people in the neighborhood about speeding and careless drivers.  Cars have been reported driving recklessly on both the streets and the alleys. This makes it dangerous for both children and adults being outside. Please help by being a considerate driver in our neighborhood.
